The degree programme Biomedical Science at FHS was developed from the Academy for the Medical Technical Laboratory Service of the Salzburg University Hospital. Due to a change of jurisdiction in 2005, it became possible to hold the training for biomedical analysts (formerly: medical technical analysts) at an advanced technical college.
In training, oriented toward the practical, the students will learn the basics, the connections and the practical use of analytical methods and functional measurements in medical laboratories and laboratories of other related branches. The complexity of the laboratory analytical processes and, in relation to that, process and quality control, technical knowledge as well as information and communication competence are all major components of this course.
An education based on good foundations, focused on practical experience, is at the heart of the training concept. This takes place, for the most part, in various laboratories at the Salzburg University Hospital. Our goal is high practical competence in all our graduates, providing a contribution to optimal health care on the one hand, and participating in research and development on the other. The aim is to fulfil all the future needs of a highly sophisticated health care system and adjoining areas including all their quality and economical aspects.
