Welcome to the overview of courses that the MultiMediaTechnology Programme offers in English for incoming exchange students.
As an international student you can choose modules out of 3 degree programmes focusing on design, media and art: MultiMediaTechnology (MMT), MultiMediaArt (MMA) and Design and Product Management (DPM)
MultiMediaTechnology offers a special module, "Web Development & Projects", in English every summer term.
MultiMediaArt and Design and Product Management offer:

The instruction language of MultiMediaTechnology courses mainly is German. For courses in German MultiMediaTechnology usually offers course materials in English. Further we provide individual support from MultiMediaTechnology lecturers and fellow students to successfully meet all requirements for the different courses. FALL SEMESTER (Course Selection only)
Course Title: English Language Skills
Course Code: MMTB1ELSUE
Number of Credits: 3 ECTS
Course Contents: Reading articles on current topics with a focus on technical English; improve students' grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary and fluency skills; learn and practice their presentation skills by preparing short presentations in English; practice their listening comprehension and writing skills by summarizing, interviews/discussions, on a technical topic; organize and chair meetings to improve their Business English skills; prepare their own CVs designed around a job connected to their studies.

Course Contents: Students can read, write, critically discuss and summarise specialist English texts and hold presentations in working English. Contents: Research in English-language libraries and databases; reading English specialist literature incl. academic literature; discussion of English specialist texts; logical argumentation; excerpting and summarising English texts; objectivity; specifics of holding presentations in English in front of a specialist audience.
Course Title: Game Development 1 (German/English)

Course Contents: Students are familiar with tools and programming concepts of game development. They are able to implement and test simple games with game engines or graphic libraries. Contents: C++ programming, software tools in game programming, debugging, profiling, deployment, game engine architectures, helpful design patterns in game programming, basic techniques of artificial intelligence for games (state machines, decision trees, steering behaviour, simple path finding, BFS, Dijkstra, A*), collision recognition, optimisation strategies (spatial hashing, quad trees, oct trees, BSP trees), interpolation methods, generative computer graphics, data-driven development (script embedding/extending etc.), creating and integrating static and dynamic libraries, smart pointers, threads, messaging, events/callbacks, network/multiplayer (problems, types of network topology server/client, peer2peer), skydome, skysphere, terrain, practical exercises.

Course Title: Content Management Systems (German/English)
Course Code: MMTB3CMSIL
Credits: 2.5 ECTS
Course Contents: They implement websites with the help of an up-to-date web CMS based on PHP. They adjust themes or develop them from scratch. They adapt, design and program plug-ins. They provide comprehensive advice to clients and offer support for the development of the site from ordering the domain rights through to maintaining the website. They are able to technically implement the requirements of search engine optimisation (SEO) and support the work of SEO personnel by installing tools. They read PHP code and can orientate themselves within a large application. They pick up on the prevailing conventions and use them in their own code. Contents: A CMS, themes, plug-ins, object-oriented PHP, PHP coding conventions, technical aspects of search engine optimisation.
SUMMER SEMESTER (Course Selection only)
Course Title: Web Development & Projects (Module for Incoming Students)
Credits: 7.5 ECTS
Course Contents: The Web Development Modul combines input on current web technologies with a semester long projects for the students.
Prerequesits: This course is suitable for students from either a technical or a design background. They will be working in interdisciplinary teams. Students have to be able to write basic HTML and CSS Code before starting this course. For example in the Textbook "Fundamentals of Web Development" this would correspond to chapters 1 - 4, see funwebdev.com/about/table-of-contents/
After this module students will be able to
- design and program a one-page web application that uses existing backends and APIs,
- use a frontend tool chain for converting, minifying and concatenating ES6, SASS and CSS files,
- create, convert and optimizing images for web pages, especially for responsive design,
- understand the goals of responsive design, use mediaqueries, reponsive images and mobile first design to achieve them,
- create transitions, animations, vector graphics, 3d graphics, parallax effects for web pages.
Practical Outcome: a finished project.
Course Title: Concurrent & Distributes Systems (German/English)

Credits: 2.5 ECTS
Course Contents: They are aware of up-to-date topics in software development relevant for their career e.g. programming systems with multiple processors and distributed systems, as well as the relevant theoretical and algorithmic solutions. Contents: Network programming, synchronous vs. asynchronous communication; message systems; parallel programming: multi-threading; mutual exclusion, synchronisation; basic algorithms for distributed systems.
Course Title: HCI-Studio (German/English)
Course Code: MMTB4HCIIL
Credits: 2.5 ECTS
Course Contents: Students can develop interfaces as part of a user-centred design (UCD) process. They know methods and approaches for: conceiving and carrying out a user, task and environment analysis as part of the analysis phase; processing the results of the analysis phase to provide input for the design phase (persona, scenarios); developing various prototypes (low and high fidelity) based on design principles and prototyping methods; conceiving and carrying out user evaluations in the lab (creating a test plan, carrying out a user study, evaluating results); documenting the entire development process. Contents: Methods of the contextual analysis phase (focus group, survey, contextual enquiry, observation etc.); processing the results of the analysis phase (personas, scenarios, design recommendations etc.); user interface and user interaction design; prototyping methods (experience prototyping etc.); evaluation methods (usability study etc.).
Course Title: Multimedia Project 2 (German/English)
Course Code: MMTB4MMPPT
Credits: 2 ECTS
Course Contents: Students can carry out projects with specific multimedia topics in specialist or extended teams (e.g. with the partial integration of designers) and use general project management methods and tools in practice as part of this. They use the advanced concepts and methods of the compulsory elective 2. Contents: Carrying out a multimedia project which is challenging on a specialist and organisational level.
