Advertising Film

Semester 4
Academic year 2
Course code MMAB4WFIIL
Type IL
Kind Elective
Language of instruction German
SWS 1.5
ECTS Credits 3
Examination character immanent

Lecture content:

Step-by-step introduction to the realisation of advertising films. Campaign thinking in integrated cross-media communication is specially promoted. The educational programme also functions as a "laboratory" for new, innovative thinking. After communicating basic knowledge of the advertising industry and its special characteristics, known formats, lengths and points of view should be subjected to critical analysis, and room for new and especially provocative staging concepts and ideas is to be allowed. The multiple benefits of a film are becoming increasingly important in times of tight budgets. Not only 30-second versions for television, but also Internet versions, trade show movies or commercial films, or even transmissions of individual ideas or entire movies to other media are gaining more and more importance. The course ends with the students’ own advertising film project (often in cooperation with the free market), which is submitted to international competitions at student advertising film festivals.

Basic knowledge of directing actors and performances to display diverse emotional scenarios as a basic component of shooting a film. Fundamental knowledge and skills in creating scripts (basic concepts with a view to theoretical frameworks, examination of different dramaturgical concepts of the history and present of film; creative details, especially plot development, scenes and dialogue management). Fundamental knowledge and skills in optically implementing film concepts, and the creative and technical methods (e.g. lighting and camera) required for this. Fundamental knowledge and skills in using sounds for digital film productions. Fundamental knowledge of and skills for digital content edits in the creative process. In-depth skills in creativity, production and technology management for the creation of sophisticated digital films.
