In October 2024, the new English-language Master's degree programme in Realtime Art & Visual Effects* will start at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences (*subject to approval). Talents in the field of computer animation can now apply for admission to this pioneering programme.

The uniqueness of this degree programme is demonstrated by the intensive cooperation with leading companies in the global computer graphics industry. The new degree programme was the first Austrian university to be accredited as an 'Academic Partner' of Epic Games right from the start. The US company is known as the developer of the game engine Unreal. The co-operation with the Canadian software company SideFX is just as close. Salzburg University of Applied Sciences is one of only six universities in the German-speaking world to offer certified training for Houdini, the world's leading 3D software from SideFX.

Study programme for future-oriented technologies

The curriculum of the Master's degree programme combines creativity and technology and qualifies graduates for the design of diverse visual content using state-of-the-art methods. This includes areas such as video game and film production as well as innovative applications in sectors such as the automotive industry, data visualisation and digital twins. The lecturers come from international industry companies such as Trixter, RiseFX Visual Effects, Industrial Light & Magic, Epic Games, Pixomondo, DNEG and UBISOFT.

"The new programme builds a bridge between the game and film industries and focuses on teaching content that reflects current changes in the creation of visual content, in particular real-time and procedural workflows as well as generative AI. Students have the opportunity to focus on an individual research project under the intensive supervision of industry experts and gain practical experience in professional productions," explains programme director Josef Schinwald.

Registration for Realtime Art & Visual Effects is now open. To apply, applicants must have completed a relevant Bachelor's degree programme and have a portfolio of creative work. The application deadline is 15 May 2024.
