Why study Occupational Therapy at Salzburg University of Applied Sciences?
In order to work as an occupational therapist in either your own practice or in a hospital, you need a legal professional qualification according to Austria's MTD-Gesetz. You will become professionally qualified as part of your six-semester Occupational Therapy Bachelor's degree at Salzburg University of Applied Sciences.
During your course, you will gain the methodical and strategical scientific skills to help people of all ages on their journey back to independent living. The occupational therapeutic process, which runs through the entire course of studies as a training topic, is focused on the pillars of self-sufficiency, productivity, and leisure activities.

Study content and focus areas
In order to complement the theoretical part of our Bachelor's degree program, our Occupational Therapy training includes an intensive practical part. Vocational training takes place at Salzburg University Hospital (SALK) as well as through internship positions in Austria and neighbouring countries.
The practical part covers the following areas:
- Selected fields of Occupational Therapy
- Paediatrics
- Hand rehabilitation/Orthopaedics
- Neurology
- Psychiatry/occupational integration or health promotion/prevention and research
- Geriatrics
Practical training: In order to link education and training even more closely, two projects will take place during the course of your studies with specialised partners. For example, in the second semester, you will work with real clients as part of our workshop called “Activation and Participation”. Even during our prevention project that takes place in the fifth semester, real cases are at the forefront of your training – be it through “back care” for primary schools or “comfort break” for employees of a retirement home.
Good to know: In the sixth semester you also have the opportunity to further your knowledge in selected Occupational Therapy procedures. You will deal with future occupational therapy fields such as socio-political or local occupational therapy, or through working with traumatised people.
