Artificial intelligence is fundamentally transforming healthcare by accelerating processes, improving diagnostic accuracy, and facilitating access to medical services. The master’s program “Applied AI in Healthcare” enables students to actively shape this transformation—at the intersection of technology, medicine, and society.

The two-year, English-language program (120 ECTS) is aimed at working professionals in the healthcare sector with at least two years of professional experience. A special focus is placed on providing participants without a strong technical background with a solid and practice-oriented introduction.

First joint degree program of PMU & Salzburg University of Applied Sciences

The new master’s program is the first degree jointly developed by the two institutions. At Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, students gradually acquire solid skills in data analysis and AI methods, while PMU in Salzburg and Salzburg University Hospital contribute the clinical perspective. This enables participants to learn how AI solutions can be successfully integrated into everyday healthcare—from development to responsible application.

“With ‘Applied AI in Healthcare,’ we are creating a forward-looking educational program that combines cutting-edge technological expertise with clinical excellence. Our goal is to empower healthcare professionals to use artificial intelligence responsibly and effectively for the benefit of patients,” explains Annemarie Weißenbacher, Rector of Paracelsus Medical Private University.

FH Rector Dominik Engel adds: “Salzburg University of Applied Sciences contributes its strong expertise in data science, artificial intelligence, and applied digitalization to this joint master’s program. Our focus is on teaching students—even those without a deep technical background—the methods and tools of AI in a way that makes them immediately applicable in healthcare practice. In doing so, we make a concrete contribution to safely and effectively bringing innovation into everyday care.”

Actively shaping the future of healthcare

During the program, participants acquire in-depth knowledge in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science, and are trained to apply this knowledge specifically in clinical environments. The focus is not only on developing models, but especially on integrating AI solutions into real healthcare processes and systems.

The program represents a central contribution to the digitalization strategy of the State of Salzburg and sustainably strengthens its position as a hub for science and healthcare.
