New partnership: FH Salzburg joins Unreal Academic Partner Programme

FH Salzburg is the first Austrian university to be accepted into the Unreal Academic Partner Programme of the US computer games manufacturer Epic Games.

Translate to English: Josef Schinwald, Leiter des Fachbereich Animation an der FH Salzburg, hat die akademische Partnerschaft mit Epic Games arrangiert.

As part of the Unreal Academic Partner Programme, students in the MultiMediaArt Master's programme will gain exclusive access to a range of Unreal Engine training opportunities, tools and libraries of 3D assets that will help them develop innovative, interactive media projects.

Students will learn how to develop and design real-time 3D experiences using the Unreal Engine and other tools in the Epic ecosystem, including Reality Capture, MetaHumans and Quixel MegaScans. They will gain access to many of Epic Games' most advanced tools and educational resources worldwide, preparing them for careers in the creative industries. The partner programme is an important addition to the newly developed Computer Animation curriculum in the MultiMediaArt master's programme, which goes into effect this fall.

"By being accepted into the Unreal Academic Partner Programme, our students gain exclusive access to the manufacturer of the most advanced 3D development environment in the industry. This will be noticeable in the once again increased quality of our student projects and the further improved qualification of our graduates," explains Josef Schinwald, Head of the Computer Animation Department at FH Salzburg. "We are pleased to be able to give our students direct access to the Unreal Engine ecosystem and to further strengthen our position as a state-of-the-art institution in the field of animation education. I can't wait to see what our students will achieve with the new possibilities!"

The prototype for the computer game "WHALIEN - Unexpected Guests" was developed by students at the FH Salzburg using the Unreal Engine from Epic Games. The game has been commercially available since the end of January 2023.
