Just in time for International Women’s Day on 8 March, a special episode of the A Life Abroad podcast by the International Office is now available. In Episode 15, Jennifer and Kevin speak with Negar, a student and staff member at FH Salzburg who grew up in Iran. Her journey brought her to Austria to pursue her studies and to build a career in the field of technology.

As the first person in her family to leave her home country, Negar Farahani speaks openly about the courage this step required – and how she and her husband embarked on a new chapter abroad together. She is currently studying for the Master’s degree in Applied Image and Signal Processing while working as a Junior Researcher at the Department of Creative Technologies.

In the episode, she talks with the International Office team about the realities for women working in tech in Iran and Austria, the challenges and opportunities that have shaped her path, and the beauty and diversity of Iranian culture, hospitality, and daily life. She also reflects on her experience of arriving in Austria and finding her way – honest, thoughtful, and inspiring.
Look forward to a conversation full of resilience, cultural insights, and personal stories about what it truly means to build a life abroad.
