With a warm “Welcome to Salzburg”, the International Office welcomed around 100 incoming students from 30 different countries to FH Salzburg in mid-September. The traditional Welcome Days offered the international students a varied programme of informative events and cultural highlights.
With a warm “Welcome to Salzburg”, the International Office of FH Salzburg welcomed 101 incoming students from 30 different countries on 14 September. Among them are six recipients of the Ernst Mach Scholarship and 13 students participating in the KA171 programme.
The traditional Welcome Days marked the beginning of their semester abroad and offered the international students a varied and engaging programme. Alongside essential information about studying and living in Salzburg, the focus was on creating opportunities to make first connections and get to know the region.
Information sessions, campus tours and cultural activities helped students settle into their new academic environment and quickly find their way around. At the same time, the Welcome Days provided an ideal platform for intercultural exchange and networking with fellow students from around the world.
Re-Use Initiative
The “Re-Use Initiative” was also part of the Welcome Days programme. Through this initiative, exchange students had the opportunity to take over well-preserved everyday items from students who had already completed their stay and returned home. This not only helps newcomers settle more easily into their temporary home but also contributes to sustainability by giving useful items a second life.
Intercultural Experiences and Friendships for Life
In addition to key orientation sessions organised by the departments, the Students’ Union (ÖH FH Salzburg) and the international programme coordinators, the Welcome Days featured a wide range of social and networking activities. Highlights included a group excursion to the Golling Waterfalls, a guided city tour of Salzburg’s Old Town followed by a relaxed social gathering at the Augustiner Bräu brewery, and an interactive scavenger hunt through the city centre that took participants to Hohensalzburg Fortress and across the Mönchsberg.
A special focus this semester is once again on integrating international students into campus life. Numerous buddy students support the incoming students throughout their stay and help them navigate their new environment. The programme provides a valuable experience for everyone involved and often leads to lasting international friendships.
