The FH Salzburg Teaching Award recognizes outstanding teaching skills, dedication to students' success, and innovative teaching methods. Students are invited to nominate their favourite courses.

The award has been presented annually since 2023, with a prize money totalling per call over € 5,000, and honours outstanding teaching skills at the FH Salzburg. The winners of the Teaching Award.

Evaluation periode academic year 2025/26: The evaluation for each course will be open as soon as the course is about to start its last quarter and will end on 08 February 2026 (winter semester) or 12 July 2026 (summer semester).

FH Salzburg awards the Teaching Award 2026.
Courses held in winter semester 2024/25 and/or summer semester 2025 and/or winter semester 2025/26 can be submitted by lecturers.
Lecturers who have received at least five student nominations AND have been nominated by at least 20 % of the enrolled students are eligible to submit.
Who is eligible for the award?
Internal and external lecturers of the FH Salzburg, who have shown outstanding teaching skills, dedication to students' success, and innovative teaching methods in a course held in winter semester 2024/25 and/or summer semester 2025 and/or winter semester 2025/26 can be awarded.
Courses that have more than one lecturer and are divided in parts, can also be awarded as a whole or in parts.
Lecturers also have the option of submitting several courses.
Who can nominate and how (does it work)?
Students of FH Salzburg can select “Nominate this course for the FH Salzburg Teaching Award” (item no. 9) on the course evaluation form (online) during the evaluation period.
The evaluation period for the winter semester 2025/26 ends on 8 February 2026.
The evaluation periods for the winter semester 2024/25 and summer semester 2025 are already closed.
Who can submit?
All lecturers of FH Salzburg are eligible to submit a course
- held in winter semester 2024/25 and/or summer semester 2025 and/or winter semester 2025/26,
- that has received at least five student nominations AND has been nominated by at least 20 % of the enrolled students and
- must have a minimum volume of 1 SWS, regardless of the course type,
for the FH Salzburg Teaching Award.
In case that a course is shared with other lecturers (e.g. if a large course is held in parts by several lecturers), any of the lecturers can submit the course as a group or individuals may only submit their part of the course.
Lecturers may resubmit submitted courses to the Teaching Award, provided that the submission has been revised, whereby award winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd place, as well as the Honour Award) from previous years may not resubmit the award-winning course.
Submitting a course for the Teaching Award is at the discretion of the respective lecturer. Students and colleagues can actively encourage lecturers to submit. There is no obligation to submit.
How are evaluation and selection conducted?
The winners will be selected by a jury in a two-stage process. The teaching concept must first be submitted in text form (stage 1). After reviewing the submissions, the jury will draw up a shortlist. Those on the shortlist are then invited to present their teaching concept in a 3-minute video (stage 2).
The jury's decision and the selection of the shortlisted candidates will be announced in due course. The winners of the FH Salzburg Teaching Award 2026 will be announced at the award ceremony.
The evaluation and selection by the jury will be based on the following criteria: student-centeredness, course structure, innovative teaching and learning formats, research- or practice-led teaching and an overall impression.
The course evaluation will also be reviewed by the jury in terms of content.
The jury consists of students, fellow colleagues from the areas of teaching and research, quality management, Didactics and Learning Technologies as well as the rectorate and an external expert.
Awards and ceremony
The FH Salzburg Teaching Award 2026 is awarded as follows, totalling over € 5,000:
- 1st Place € 2,000
- 2nd Place € 1,500
- 3rd Place € 1,000
- Honour Award* € 500
*A teaching concept that particularly stands out in one of the Teaching Award criteria or makes a special contribution to topics such as internationalisation, sustainability, diversity and equality, or if it is an out-of-the-box teaching concept, will be awarded the Honour Award.
Shortlisted lecturers will receive € 200.
The prize money will be disbursed by FH Salzburg to the winners. (Please note that this payment is taxable.)
In the case of group submissions, the award will be divided equally.
The award ceremony will take place on 5 May 2026.

Submission will be open from 8 September 2025 until 8 March 2026.
The teaching concept must first be submitted in text form (stage 1) in this submission window using the submission form (stage 1). After reviewing the submissions, the jury will draw up a shortlist and the decision will be announced on 24 March 2025.
Those on the shortlist will then be invited to present their teaching concepts in a 3-minute short video (stage 2) and submit it by 19 April 2026.

Submission stage 2 (video)
Those on the shortlist must also present their teaching concept in a video (stage 2). All submitters will be informed of the jury's decision and selection on 24 March 2025.
The shortlisted candidates will then be invited to present their teaching concepts in a 3-minute video (stage 2) and submit it.
The short video must be submitted online by 19 April 2026 at the latest using an MS Forms form. (For this, it is necessary to be logged in with the FHS-Office-Account).
Requirements for the short video:
- Pitch your course for the FH Salzburg Teaching Award with a short video.
- Content (among others): Explanation of the teaching concept, comment on the criteria using the guiding questions, optional: sample of the teaching.
- Please note that there are plans to release the video broadly.
- Length: max. 3 minutes (Please note: Submissions that exceed the specified video length will be eliminated from the selection process.)

The Didactics and Learning Technologies team has provided comprehensive information about the production steps involved in creating a video on myFHS.
The Didactics and Learning Technologies Studio (DLT Studio) at Urstein campus is available for video production.
DLT Studio makes the creation of multimedia teaching content easier than ever before. Thanks to the "one-button" principle, recording can begin with just one click. Five stations are available: From a professional studio setting with green screen to the Learning Glass and a classic PC. It is also possible to record podcasts or screencasts with the graphics board. You can switch between the stations during the recording and thus combine different formats. Detailed information on the various stations can be found on myFHS.
On 26 March 2025, from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m., there will be an introduction session to the DLT Studio for all those on the shortlist. Participation is optional.
The DLT Studio is reserved for the Teaching Award between 26 March and 16 April 2025 (weekly from Monday to Thursday) for the respective shoot. Time slots are allocated on a first come, first served basis. Shooting time is limited (60 minutes), so please come prepared to the shoot.
Submitters are free to record a short video about their teaching concept before the shortlist is announced (24 March 2024) and to book the DLT Studio themselves for this purpose.

Submission for the FH Salzburg Teaching Award 2022/23 is open from 01 September 2023 until 29 September 2023, 12 pm. Courses held in winter semester 2022/23 and/or summer semester 2023 can be submitted by lecturers.
Students of FH Salzburg were able to nominate courses via the course evaluation form. Lecturers who have received at least three student nominations are eligible to submit their course for the FH Salzburg Teaching Award.
Who can nominate and how (does it work)? (Nomination)
- Starting with summer semester 2023, students of FH Salzburg select “Nominate this course for the FH Salzburg Teaching Award” (Item No. 9) on the course evaluation form online.
- Lecturers who receive three student nominations are eligible to submit their courses for the FH Salzburg Teaching Award.
In winter semester 2022/23, item no. 9 was not yet implemented in the course evaluation form. Outstandingly evaluated courses of winter semester 2022/23 can still be submitted by lecturers. After submission, it is the responsibility of the jury to assess whether there is sufficient positive feedback from students using the course evaluation form of the time.

Internal and external lecturers of the FH Salzburg, who have shown outstanding teaching skills, dedication to students' success, and innovative teaching methods in a course held in winter semester 2022/23 or summer semester 2023.
Courses that have more than one lecturer and are divided in parts, can also be awarded as a whole or in parts.
The course or the part of the course must have a minimum volume of 1 SWS, regardless of the course type (e.g. IL, VO or ÜB).
Who can submit? (Submission)
All lecturers of FH Salzburg who fulfil the formal criteria listed above can submit a course for the FH Salzburg Teaching Award.
In case that a course is shared with other lecturers (e.g. if a large course is held in parts by several lecturers), any of the lecturers can submit the course as a group or individuals may only submit their part of the course. In the case of a group submission, a total of three nominations must be submitted.
Submitting a course for the FH Salzburg Teaching Award is at the discretion of the respective lecturer. Students and colleagues can actively encourage lecturers to submit. There is no obligation to submit.

Winners of the FH Salzburg Teaching Award
Teaching Award 2024
The jury reviewed 15 submissions in detail and shortlisted six, three of which were honoured on 19 November 2024:
- The winner (First place) of the Teaching Award 2024 is Jakob Christensen from the Department of Creative Technologies, for his particularly student-centred teaching concept in the subject ‘3D Introduction’.
- Second place went to external lecturer - and graduate - Sofie Suntinger from the Department of Health Sciences for the subject ‘English in the Professional Field of Orthoptics’.
- Third place in this year's Teaching Award went to Andreas Bilke from the Department of Creative Technologies. He competed with an overall concept for two courses, ‘Algorithms and Data Structures’ and ‘Introduction to Programming’, for which he pursued a similar didactic approach, that of the so-called ‘inverted’ or ‘flipped classroom’.
Teaching Award 2023
A total of 8 teaching concepts made it onto the shortlist. At the award ceremony, three winning projects (1st to 3rd place) and a Honour Award were awarded. The award recognises outstanding teaching by allowing lecturers to present their didactic concepts and share their way of teaching with the jury as well as with all other lecturers, which enables mutual learning. And, of course, the students also benefit from the innovative teaching.

- 2nd place: Stefan Wegenkittl, Martin Uray, Maximilian Jakob Schirl and Clemens Havas, course „Machine Learning“
- 3rd place: Maria Siller, course „Grundlagen der Logistik“ AND Ulrike Pichler, course „Neuroorthoptik“
- Honour Award: Günter Berger, "Nachhaltigen Exkursion“
