European Exchange in Nursing Education: ENNE Meets in Salzburg for the First Time

From 19 to 25 April 2026, the annual meeting of the European Network of Nursing in Higher Education (ENNE) took place in Salzburg for the first time. The event was hosted by FH Salzburg – University of Applied Sciences, which has been the only Austrian higher education institution to be part of the network for many years. The aim of the meeting is to foster international exchange on nursing education and to strengthen European collaboration.

The EU-funded intensive week brought together 83 students and teaching staff from across Europe at FH Salzburg. The ENNE network is dedicated to promoting innovation in nursing education and preparing students for the European professional field in line with EU directives.

Christoph Meinhart, Head of the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Nursing at FH Salzburg and Vice President of ENNE, emphasised the importance of such international formats:

“In a connected Europe without borders, it is essential to have intercultural knowledge and to actively apply it. Networks play a crucial role – not only professionally, but also personally. We are grateful for this intensive and enriching week and for the new contacts that will continue well into the future.”

The programme included country presentations, networking formats and a guided tour of FH Salzburg, offering insights into the modern Skills Lab, where students practise hands-on nursing competencies. Each participating higher education institution was represented by five to eight students. One participant summed up the week perfectly:

“We may speak different languages, but we all speak the language of nursing.”

The next ENNE intensive week will take place in April next year in Tartu, Estonia.
