Midwives are legally authorised to independently support women throughout their physiological experience of pregnancy and child birth. This carves out a comprehensive spectrum of work opportunities, be it in the form of permanent appointments in hospitals, in labour or maternity wards, as an “attending midwife” or a freelance midwife.
Midwife assistance and consultation for mothers-to-be can range from support during medical check-ups starting from the early stages of pregnancy, to antenatal preparation, support during child birth, aftercare, baby care, and support for breastfeeding right up to the end of the lactation period.
