Learning Outcomes:
Students define the terms perception and cognition and explain their meaning for people of all ages. They define the term consciousness. They describe types of sensory perception as the basis for cognitive processing. They contrast and explain self-perception and perception by others as an important competency for professional practice. Students understand physiological and pathological relationships in the areas of personal hygiene, nutrition, elimination, sleep, movement, perception and safety. They perceive deviations and disorders in clients of all age groups. They support clients in these areas and carry out prophylaxis. They master the skills, abilities and strategies required to carry out simple therapeutic and diagnostic measures in accordance with medical instructions. In doing so, they integrate central principles, action sequences, methods and techniques of health care and nursing after critical review situation- and individual-related into the nursing action and take into account economic and ecological criteria. Students elicit, interpret, and document vital signs; in the event of deviations from the norm, they forward them. Students demonstrate basic dressing application techniques. They are proficient in the use of materials for wound care. Students master the handling of medications, know the different forms of application, prepare and administer medications correctly, and perform patient*internal observation after administration. The students know the basics of nursing documentation. They document the nursing care provided in the implementation record and observations or deviations in the nursing report in a process-oriented manner.

They explain the corresponding clinical pictures, describe their courses and possible complications and distinguish symptomatology relevant for nursing care and include these in the nursing plan in the sense of the best possible care for the patient. They know the examination methods required for the diagnosis of the respective organ-related clinical pictures and classify findings as pathological or non-pathological. They know both conservative and rehabilitative as well as surgical therapy possibilities of the respective clinical pictures. They are familiar with the procedure in the practice area and help to shape it in a meaningful way. The students apply nursing concepts learned in theory in practice. They use the models of counseling and education learned in the area of health promotion and prevention in the context of their work and reflect on these approaches. They use this knowledge to improve the nursing process in terms of providing the best possible patient/client/resident care. Students take responsibility for procedures and carry out parts of the nursing process under guidance and supervision. Students reflect on practical experiences and write them down selectively. In the form of work assignments, reflection is directed to specific parts of nursing practice already learned in theory. In this way, students improve the transfer of knowledge learned in theory into practice. In self-study, the students acquire knowledge relevant to nursing practice on the disease patterns relevant to the respective practice site (anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, causes, course of disease, prognosis, diagnostics, therapy) or deepen their knowledge. Students consolidate the skills and abilities learned in practical courses 1 - 4 and take on increasingly complex activities. They perform the nursing process independently. Under supervision and guidance, students assume responsibility for a patient/client/resident or a group of persons in need of care. They become familiar with the responsibilities of ward management.

As professionals, students are able to help shape and optimize care processes. They assume the function of a case and care manager. They assume an innovative key function in the implementation and further development of care processes in the interdisciplinary and multiprofessional professional field of health care. The students are familiar with the range of activities of ward and area managers. They guide trainees/students, nursing assistants and members of social care professions to take over nursing activities or to support basic care and exercise supervision or accompanying control over the implementation of the activities. They assess the delegability of individual nursing interventions and medical orders to authorized persons. They instruct and guide them in the performance of delegated activities. In cooperation with the person being cared for and the lay caregiver, they develop a quality assurance system that enables the timely recognition of circumstances that no longer permit nursing care by lay caregivers.
