Several new study programmes were successfully launched at FH Salzburg at the beginning of the current academic year: the Bachelor's degree programmes Early Childhood Education and Green Engineering – Sustainable Process Engineering and Circular Economy, as well as the Master's degree programmes Retail & Technology and Applied AI in Healthcare (a joint Master's programme with PMU). In addition, the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes Code and Interactive Systems (formerly MultiMediaTechnology) welcomed their first cohort with a newly revised academic profile.

“We continuously develop our degree programmes in line with societal and technological developments. With the planned new programmes in Health Sciences and Life Sciences, as well as the further enhancement of our IT portfolio, we are creating educational opportunities that address key future challenges while offering excellent career prospects,” says Dominik Engel, Rector of FH Salzburg.

New Degree Programmes from 2027/28

For the 2027/28 academic year, FH Salzburg is expanding its academic portfolio with two new degree programmes.

Speech and Language Therapy* (Bachelor)

Communication is a key component of quality of life and independence. In the new Bachelor's degree programme in Speech and Language Therapy, students learn to assess and treat speech, language, voice, hearing and swallowing disorders. The programme combines medical, linguistic and therapeutic expertise with practical training in healthcare settings. Topics such as teletherapy, evidence-based practice and interprofessional collaboration prepare graduates for the demands of modern healthcare.

  • Places available: 15 per year
  • Duration: 6 semesters
  • Qualification awarded: Bachelor of Science in Health Studies (BSc) plus professional qualification

Joint Master Biomedical Technologies and Analytics*

Biomedical research is advancing rapidly and requires experts who can think across disciplinary boundaries. The new English-taught Joint Master's Degree in Biomedical Technologies and Analytics, offered by FH Salzburg and the University of Salzburg, combines biomedical expertise with technological and analytical competencies. Students deepen their knowledge in areas including haematology, immunology, molecular and cellular biology, while working with state-of-the-art scientific methods and technologies. With its interdisciplinary, practice-oriented and international focus, the programme prepares graduates for diverse careers in biomedical research, the pharmaceutical industry and the life sciences sector.

  • Places available: 20 per year
  • Duration: 4 semesters
  • Language of instruction: English
  • Qualification awarded: Master of Science (MSc)

IT Bachelor's Degree with a New Profile

The former Information Technology & Systems Management degree programme is being relaunched as Information Technologies. Students acquire in-depth skills in software development, IT systems design, hardware technologies and artificial intelligence. A key innovation is the introduction of specialisation pathways: from the second semester onwards, students choose one of three pathways: Network & Systems Security, Smart Things & Robotics, or Software & Media Engineering.

These specialisations account for around one third of the programme and allow students to develop expertise aligned with their individual interests and career aspirations. Graduates are well prepared for careers as Network Engineers, Automation Engineers or Software Developers. Artificial intelligence is embedded throughout the curriculum, covering topics from Data Science and Machine Learning to AI-Augmented Coding.

The curriculum is built around three core foundations: Coding & Software Development, Computer Engineering, and AI, Data Science & Machine Learning. Programming languages and technical content have been updated to reflect current industry requirements. Programming is taught as a tool for solving real-world challenges rather than an end in itself. Students learn to understand, design and operate IT systems as an integrated whole.

  • Places available: 50 full-time / 30 part-time
  • Duration: 6 semesters
  • Qualification awarded: Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSc)
