Starting from the fourth semester, students choose one of two specializations:
- Selected Chapters Systems
- Selected Chapters Constructions
"Selected Chapters Systems"
In the “Selected Chapters Systems” specialization, the focus is on pioneering technologies and systems in the fields of mobility, energy, and governance, aimed at addressing key contemporary challenges. The moderate and efficient use of building technology (Low-Tech) is also a central topic.
Students acquire specialized knowledge in energy engineering, control engineering, building technology, building automation, hydrogen-based energy supply, power-to-gas storage systems, and the management of smart grids.
Additionally, within the “Systems” specialization, the program provides a practical foundation for a wide range of applications by teaching the individual system components (such as photovoltaic systems, solar collectors, heat pumps, efficient building envelopes, etc.) and their intelligent integration.
The focus is on:
- Energy engineering
- Building services engineering (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and sanitation)
- Building automation
- Measurement and control technology
- Modernization of existing buildings
"Selected Chapters Constructions"
In the “Selected Chapters Constructions” specialization, the focus is on the integrated approach to building design using sustainable construction methods. Emphasis is placed on the structural and technical aspects of a building, while maintaining a holistic view of all planning disciplines.
The specialization begins with topics such as timber construction, circular building, and design adapted to local climatic conditions. In addition, examples of complex façade systems from existing buildings are analyzed. With the acquired knowledge in building construction and architectural design, students are able to address specific design and technical challenges in detail through exercises and project work.
As the program progresses, the focus shifts to building refurbishment and renovation. Course content includes multifunctional building envelopes, renovation and expansion of existing structures, as well as energy performance assessment and material reuse.
The focus is on:
- Building with wood
- Circular construction
- Climate-responsive building design
- Multifunctional building envelopes
- Building refurbishment
