Internships & Semester Abroad

Internship

From your first contact with patients to your elective internship in the final year: in the Speech and Language Therapy programme at FH Salzburg, practical training accompanies you through every semester.

  • 1st semester, orientation (2 weeks):
You make your first contact with patients, take a case history and reflect on your work as a therapist.
  • 2nd semester, child language (2 weeks):
Once a week, you spend a full day working with children aged 2 to 12, in teams of two and supported by a learning journal.
  • 3rd semester, child language and first specialist area (4 weeks):
You continue your weekly work with children. At the end of the semester, you spend two weeks in audiology, voice or prevention.
  • 4th semester, specialist areas (4 weeks):
You work in child language, audiology, voice, geriatrics, neurology or prevention and health promotion.
  • 5th and 6th semester, elective internships (10 weeks and 8 weeks):
You choose the setting and specialist area according to your interests and deepen your skills. An internship abroad is also possible.

Internships abroad

A semester abroad is not part of the Bachelor's programme in Speech and Language Therapy. You can still gain international experience:

  • Internship abroad: You can complete the elective internships in the 5th and 6th semesters (10 and 8 weeks) abroad, with funding available through Erasmus+.
  • Summer schools and short stays: Short stays abroad during your studies are credited in the "Open Window" course.
  • Graduate internship: After graduating, you can add an extra semester of practical experience abroad through Erasmus+.

A course on intercultural skills prepares you for your stay. The International Academic Advisor, the International Office and the programme's internship coordinators support you with planning and while you are abroad.
