Lukas Huber: Analysis of the Process Flow for an Automated Production Ramp-Up Ensuring a rapid and reliable restart of production systems after interruptions remains a key challenge in modern industrial environments.

In this talk, the analysis and implementation of a fully automated production startup concept will be presented. Instead of following a traditional, centrally controlled sequence, the approach leverages self-synchronization between heterogeneous IT and OT components to minimize downtime. The practical implementation, validated in the JRC ISIA-Testbed, achieves a production ramp-up in under ten minutes while revealing challenges such as extended firewall initialization times and the trade-off between automation and cybersecurity. The talk will detail the system architecture from the Control Level to the Planning Level, describe the custom automation configurations on components such as the SCADA system and Automation PCs, and discuss insights gained from testing a ramp-up scenario on a production line.
