Do you have questions about your application, program, or coming to Salzburg?
You are not the only one! Look through the FAQs below and you will likely find the answer to your question.
Applying to FH Salzburg
Students who have earned their diploma or degree from outside of the E.U. can apply from 30th October until 1st April. (exception: the Human-Computer Interaction HCIE-M degree program deadline is: 28th February)
For non-E.U. applicants: all required documents must be submitted by the deadline, legalized and translated. Documents submitted to the application after the deadline will not be accepted.
If your documents need to be translated, apostilled, and or legalized, it must be done so and submitted, before the deadline. See more details, here: International applicants - Info for all applicants who are seeking admission to the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences | FH Salzburg
For applicants who have earned their degree within the E.U., you will find the applicable deadline for each degree program directly on the respective “Dates and Deadline” page of your program.
Tuition costs are the same for all FH Salzburg students, regardless of study program and regardless of where a student comes from.
The FH Salzburg charges tuition fees of 363€ per semester. This amount is payable at the start of the program (deadline for payment is detailed in the FH Salzburg Tuition Fee Guideine)
The statutory student union fee of 25.20 € per semester is additionally madated (amount is for the 2025/2026 academic year. The fee increases slightly every year). More infomation on the ÖH Website.
For more information, please visit the FH Salzburg study fees and scholarships page.
Check out the Austrian naitonal database for scholarships in Austria: www.grants.at
Also be sure to see if you qualify for these additional schoarship opportunities.
If the application portal determines that you need to pay the tuition deposit based on the information you provide, you will need to do so in order for your application to be submitted and reviewed. For applications in which the deposit has not been paid, they will not be submitted into the system for review.
The FH Salzburg collects a deposit on the tuition fee from interested students with previous education from a third-country (all countries except the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland). This does not apply to those interested in joint study programs (like Human-Computer Interaction or Applied Image and Signal Processing programs) established with the Paris-Londron-University Salzburg. Prospective students who take up studies at the FH Salzburg will have the deposit credited to the tuition fee (tuition fee and student union/ÖH fee) for the first semester, otherwise the deposit will be refunded. All further regulations can be found in the Guideline for the deposit on the tuition fee [PDF].
The difference between “full-time” and “part-time” programs is the time frame in which the courses are offered in the semester, but the course load remains the same, full.
The “part-time” program is simply a “work-friendly” option, to allow students the opportunity to work while studying.
Innovation and Management in Tourism, for example, offers a “part-time” program in which courses are taught Monday through Thursday; there are no classes on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. This allows students to work part-time, potentially in their field of study.
Full time programs will have classes at various times throughout the week, Monday-Friday and sometimes Saturday (depends on the program, semester, year. This is subject to change each semester).
Whether you are accepted for a full-time or a part-time program, enrollment in a FH Salzburg program would qualify you to apply for a Austrian Student Residence Permit.
Application Requirements
This depends on the country in which the documents were issued (regardless in which country you may currently reside). Depending on the country, the documents:
- are exempt from any certification (but will still need an offical translation, if the documents are not in German or English)
- require certifcation in the form of an apostille, or
- require full diplomatic certification
Please see the Austrian Federal Ministry of Educations webpage, to determine with which of the above options you should proceed.
Unfortunately, no. Applicants whose documents require legalization are required to have them appropriately legalized, completed by the time the application is submitted to FH Salzburg.
Applications for which a legalization is required but do not have one will not be reviewed or considered.
We cannot pre-determine a student's eligibility, however we post all of the entry requirements for students online, so that they can determine for themselves whether they think they are eligible to apply.
Please look at “Entry Requirements” and “Application and Admission” for the requirements for the program(s) you are interested in.
As soon as you submit a completed application with all the required documents - by the deadline - to the online application portal, your application will be reviewed as soon as possible. You will then be informed whether you meet the requirements for the study program and FH Salzburg.
FH Salzburg cannot issue a conditional acceptance. For students who have or are completing studies in a country outside of the EU, applications and ALL documents must be submitted in their entirety by the deadline--additional documents cannot be submitted after the deadline (e.g. a diploma, degree, or transcript).
The general admission requirement for Master's programs at FH Salzburg is the successful completion of a recognized Bachelor's Degree (at least 180 ECTS credits, in a program lasting at least 3 years) in a related field of study. A Higher National Diploma (HND) from Nigeria is not considered equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Austria. Therefore, direct admission to a Master's program with an HND is not possible.
Possible pathways:
- Consider completing a Bachelor's Degree program in Austria (or elsewhere in Europe) in a related field, such as Information Technology, Computer Science, or Multimedia
- In some cases, bridging or recognition procedures might be available if you already hold extensive professional experience and further academic qualification, but this requires individual assessment.
The language requirements depend on the program to which you apply. The minimum requirement is a B2 language level and in some cases a C1 (in English or German, or both, depending on the program).
Look at the specific program entry requirements for exact details.
Please check “English Languague Skills” or “German Language Skills” under the following links to see the accepted tests and scores:
For Bachelor's Programs: Applicants with EU/international qualifications | About to start studying | FH Salzburg
For Master's Programs: Admission Requirements for Master Programmes | About to start studying | FH Salzburg
If your application demonstrates that you are a native English speaker or it is clear through a medium of instruction certificate that you have completed your studies (high school or Bachelor's) in English, then it is not necessary to prove your language level in English.
However, please note that “in justified individual cases, the assessment of language skill can be carried out by the responsible study program during admissions procedures.”
Therefore, the program might ask you to complete additional language testing, if they are unsure from your application, whether you meet the requirements.
Regardless of the teaching language of the program, documents in English or in German are acceptable. Your official documents, like a diploma or degree and corresponding transcript, should be officially translated to German or English. In addition to the offical translation, your academic record(transcript) and degree/diploma may need to have an apostille or full diplomatic legalization.
To determine whether your document needs an apostille or legalization please see:
