Medical imaging and computational pathology lie at the intersection of medicine, computer science, and machine learning, offering enormous potential for AI-assisted diagnosis, prognosis, and biomedical research. This talk discusses the central challenges, methodological approaches, and domain-specific characteristics that define these fields, including data heterogeneity, stain variability, and the need for interpretable and robust models. Multiple instance learning (MIL) is introduced as a key framework for whole-slide image analysis under weak supervision.
