Course Title:  Specialisation 1: Furniture
Course Code: DPMB3MOBIL
Number of Credits: 6 ECTS
Observation: Restricted number of places available for Incoming students (6)
Exam Modalities: immanent exam
Course Contents: The different problem-solving strategies of product, furniture and interior design are demonstrated and worked through in each individual project topic of the specialisation.
In the projects in the furniture and industrial design specialisations, students can clearly distinguish semantic design aspects from formal aesthetic aspects, recognise their common significance for the design process and apply them in a function-oriented manner. The target group, its cultural embedding and its expectations of the product are central points of reference for the development of the design, and these background aspects are worked out using appropriate research measures. The various utilisation aspects of the product design to be developed can be incorporated into the design process right from the start. The specific requirements of industrial and furniture design in terms of technology, anthropometry, use of materials, brand fit and product design are addressed individually.
When involving external project partners, the respective additional requirements are taken into account, e.g. analysis of or integration into the existing product portfolio; the company's own design language or corporate identity; material or cost-based specifications; ecological specifications; in-house production options and technologies, etc.

Course Title: Specialisation 2: Furniture (5th WS)
Course Code: DPMB5MOBIL
Number of Credits: 9 ECTS
Observation: Restricted number of places available for Incoming students (6)
Exam Modalities: Immanent exam
Course Contents: The different problem-solving strategies of product, furniture and interior design are demonstrated and explored in three individual, thematically independent project topics. In addition to the practical aspects of design work that students now take for granted, the collaboration in interdisciplinary teams represents an additional enrichment for the design process as such and the depth of the design results produced. In addition to concentrating on the development of brand-relevant content, particular attention is paid to the design process itself (as a brand and marketing aspect in the service of the designer). Students organise the creative team and individual work process completely independently. In addition to the design result itself, a coherent communication of the same, based on a clearly comprehensible line of argumentation supported by visual elements, is a central task aspect of the course. The project documentation must be carried out according to the standards learnt in the course 'Scientific Work' and is practised by applying what has been learnt.
